gugudan - Wonderland (2016)

  • Members: Hana (0:51), Sejeong (0:59), Mina (1:06), Hyeyeon (1:10), Mimi (1:14), Soyee (1:55), Sally (2:30), Haebin (2:46), Nayoung (2:56)
  • gugudan (구구단) literally translates to “multiplication table”, which represents 9 members with 9 different charms. Since 구 (gu) is also the number 9 in Korean, their name is sometimes stylized as gu9udan or abbreviated as gx9.
  • gugudan’s concept is that they work a theater, and each new song will be a different act. “Wonderland” is a water/bubble theme influenced by The Little Mermaid.1
  • Sejeong is “in charge of cleanliness”. This is a pun on her name since 세정 (sejeong) literally means “to clean”.
  • gugudan has an official mascot named Kkyu (뀨).2 This is probably a play on characters since 뀨 (kkyu) kind of looks like a squished together 구구 (gugu). Its purpose is to update fans on all things gugudan.
  • Sejeong, Mina, and Nayoung were three popular contestants on music survival show Produce 101 (2016). They ranked 2, 9, and 14, respectively. Sejeong and Mina are currently also members of I.O.I. but took a hiatus from the group to debut in gugudan.
