I.O.I - Very Very Very (2016)

  • Members: Somi (0:19), Sejeong (0:28), Jieqiong (0:37), Chaeyeon (0:47), Yoojung (0:56), Yeunjung (1:05), Nayoung (1:33), Mina (1:43), Sohye (2:29), Doyeon (2:54), Chungha (3:00)

  • [0:20, 0:30, etc.] A spring sound effect plays twice during the chorus.

  • [0:50, 1:37, etc.] This sound effect is reminiscent of the Yoshi hatching sound from 1990 SNES platform game Super Mario World.

  • [0:51] Chaeyeon’s headband is inverted in all the dance shots.

  • [0:54] This scene is flipped horizontally, noticable by the backwards text. This portion of the set can be seen at up stage right during the dance shots.

  • [1:40] Nayoung is rapping about the story of Adam and Eve, and she sneakily does the choreography for the current viral phenomenom PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) by Piko-Taro.1

  • [2:57] Mina stealing everyone’s eggs is likely a reference to her always being caught snacking on video.2 3

  • Not shown in the music video, the choreography includes Somi doing a jump spin kick after the rap section.4 She holds a third-degree black belt in taekwondo.5

  • This song is currently charting very strongly, holding “all-kill” status on aggregate charts, i.e., simultanously #1 on all major music platforms.6

  • Nayoung and Yoojung are the group’s designated rappers, but surprisingly, Mina replaced Yoojung as the secondary rapper. This is the first time Mina has rapped in an I.O.I song.

  • I.O.I was created from the music survival show Produce 101 (2016). The prize for the top 11 winners was to debut as a new girl group for only one year before going back to their respective agencies. This is I.O.I’s final release before disbandment.7

  • Chungha participated twice on the dance competition show Hit the Stage (2016). She placed 7th in the love theme challenge and tied 4-6th in the finals.8 9

  • I.O.I were extended guests on the variety-reality program A Man Who Feeds the Dog (eps. 30-37 (2016-07-08–2016-08-26)), a show about celebrities and their pets. I.O.I’s main purpose on the show was to raise awareness about homeless animals and to promote adopting from shelters. The group took in three dogs, who they named Milk, Bubble, and Tea, and raised them until they could find owners. Sohye became so attached to Milk, she and her family ended up adopting him.10

  • In the fourth episode of LAN Cable Friend I.O.I (2016-07-29), members did individual live internet broadcasts competing for the most viewers. Nayoung ended up reading a book written by Buddhist monk Ven. Haemin to her viewers since she thought it was interesting.11 In a later interview, she said that she keeps receiving books as gifts from fans and admitted she actually doesn’t read that much.12 (She likely read the book as a play on her nickname “Stone Buddha” Nayoung.)

  • Watch Jieqiong jam out on a pipa, a four-stringed Chinese lute.

  • Listen to miss me? on [Apple Music], [Google Play Music], and [Spotify].
