Sunmi - Gashina (2017)

  • Sunmi (b. 1992-05-02) is a solo artist under MakeUs Entertainment.

  • Sunmi debuted in 2008 as one of the original members of Wonder Girls. She left the group in early 2010 due to overwhelming stress but would return as a solo artist in 2014 with the hit “Full Moon” (FMF 2014-10-24).1 When Wonder Girls reformed into a band in 2015, she rejoined as the group’s bassist. Wonder Girls officially disbanded early 2017, in which Sunmi concluded her contract with JYP Entertainment and signed with MakeUs Entertainment.

  • The term 가시나 (gasina) is rather ambiguious in the context of the song. By definition, it is an informal way to call a girl, and in the dialects of the mid and southern regions of Korea, it has a more vulgar connotation closer to “bitch”.2 According to official media, the title has three meanings: I will prick you with my thorns; why did you leave such a pretty girl; and with thorns, there is a beautiful bed of roses.3
